The Victorian State Government in Australia launched a new campaign to highlight the importance of family support in preventing all forms of family violence and abuse against LGBT+ people. #PrideRespectEquality
There is some really great research and resources underpinning the campaign including that:
- More than six in ten LGBTQ+ people have experienced family violence.
- Parents are the most common perpetrators of violence within families.
- Verbal abuse is most common, followed closely by emotional abuse and physical abuse.
As Rotarians, we have a responsibility to uphold the human rights of all people and are well placed to support LGBT+ people experiencing family violence around the world. What will your club do to support people facing family violence?
